MARCAS SMITH

A South Carolina native, is a holistic creative with a focus on expression through movement. From a young age, Marc was involved in not only many styles of dance—such as ballet, tap, jazz, hip hop, contemporary, modern, and musical theatre—but also in acting, singing, modeling, and improv. Ultimately having to hone in on his interests, he pursued an architectural degree at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) while training more intensely in hip hop and related styles. He got his start with choreography and teaching through MIT Mocha Moves, a collegiate team, and eventually trained in the local Boston dance scene with teams such as Concept Artists (Tarikh Campbell & Sean Bjerke), CrewNex (Junior Cius) and FaceOff Elite (Jaheem “FaceOff” Alleyne). Through his involvement in the community, Marc taught regularly as part of PUSH Workshops (CrewNex). During this time he also directed, produced, and choreographed his own show, The Show, which was an expression of his interests in performing, teaching, videography, artistic production, graphic design, and photography. At the end of his collegiate years, Marc continued to develop his passion for architecture and dance overseas in the Netherlands where he trained with Kenzo Alvares, Shay Latukolan, Sascha Lekatompessy, Sam den Hollander, and many others. Here, he also trained basics in Choreography, Popping, Waving, Freestyle, House, and Krump. Becoming part of the Dutch dance scene, Marc secured a regular teaching slot with Global Dance Centre (Amsterdam, NL) in early 2020.  He is now continuing his training as part of Komansé Dance Company under Raianna Brown. From his wide exposure and variety of training, Marc’s choreography class focuses on how we can use movement and different techniques to “speak” to others. It is geared toward those who want to develop individuality and character in their movement, regardless of their journey or career path in dance. Marc hopes you join him in becoming a holistic mover!
